Cheers (Season 3) DVD Review

One of the greatest television comedies in history, Cheers is an absolute "must see" for anyone who's ever had a regular hangout "where everybody knows your name". The shows centers itself around the friendly neighborhood Boston bar named Cheers. The bar is owned by former Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Sam Malone (Ted Danson). Sam has three employees - bartender Ernie "Coach" Pantusso (Nicholas Colasanto) and waitresses Carla Tortelli (Rhea Pearlman) and Diane Chambers (Shelley Long). Season 3 witnesses the edition of popular cast member Kelsey Grammar as Dr. Frasier Crane (who would later spawn his own series spin-off, Frasier). Regular barflies Norm Peterson (George Wendt) and Cliff Clavin (John Ratzenberger) round out a strong supporting cast.

The Cheers (Season 3) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes and begins the ascent of Dr. Frasier Crane, imminent psychologist, as a television icon. Notably, Dr. Crane's stint on Cheers was originally intended to last for only a few episodes until his character became a regular cast member (similar to John Ratzenberger's ascent on the show). Michael Richards (Kramer from the hit show Seinfeld) makes a notable guest appearance in episode # 62. Following her breakup with Sam and abandonment of Cheers, Diane returns to the bar at the request of Coach who feels it will help Sam end his problem drinking. The Sam-Diane-Frasier love triangle lasts for the entirety of the season, culminating in the final episode where Frasier proposes to Diane while the two are on a trip across the European continent

Three Treatment Options For Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a type of skin scar, often caused by rapid pulling of the skin, such as occurs in pregnancy, or with sudden weight gain. Stretch marks can also appear after fast weight loss.

They arise due to breakdown of the dermis, the middle layer of skin which is responsible for maintaining the skins structure and tone. When the dermis breaks down, the surface of the skin will show stretch marks. These normally start out a reddish-purplish color and then gradually fade to a glossy white or silver.

The best way to manage stretch marks is to do your best to prevent them. Drinking plenty of water will keep your skin soft and well hydrated, allowing it to have more give before it breaks. Minimizing caffeine intake, and eating foods high in zinc, protein, and the A, C, and D vitamins can also give your skin a bit more elasticity, thereby reducing the likelihood of stretch marks.

You can also boost your skins hydration and stretch-ability from the outside, by keeping your skin well moisturized. Using an oil rich lotion, such as one made from cocoa butter or shea butter, will reduce your chances of developing stretch marks.

Sometimes, though, total prevention is not possible, and you develop stretch marks anyway. When this happens, what are your treatment options?

Treatment Option #1: Surgical methods

Dermabrasion or chemical peels may be your best surgical options for addressing stretch marks. New advances in laser surgery also make this another possibility. The best treatment for you will depend on your age, skin tone, severity of stretch marks, and level of health.

Laser stretch mark treatment works by building new collagen and repairing the stretch mark from the inside out.

Surgical options can be expensive and may not be covered by your medical insurance.

Treatment Option #2: Lotions or Creams

There are many stretch mark treatments on the market, many of which promise amazing results. Unfortunately, its difficult to determine which creams really work. Your best plan would be to get direct referrals from your doctor, or from trusted family or friends who have successfully treated their stretch marks. Be sure to select lotions or creams which have research and proven results. If youre not totally certain that a cream will work for you, consider asking for a sample or trial size container so you can try it out before committing to a full size container.

Treatment Option #3: Patience

This option refers to being patient, as your stretch marks will fade naturally over time. (Not the fastest treatment option, thats for sure!)

Again, remember that its better to prevent stretch marks than it is to have to treat them. Maintain a healthy diet, keep your skin well moisturized, and avoid excess caffeine. If you do all this, but still have a stretch mark or two, consider a lotion or cream to treat them. If your stretch marks are severe, talk to your doctor about the best surgical treatment options for you, based on your age, skin tone, and stretch mark severity.

Automobile Electric Fans

Choosing Electric fans for your car and other vehicles can be a difficult task today! There are about thousands of products to choose from and one can find different types of radiator cooling fans on the web so much, so that it is difficult to select the best one of the lot. In view of this situation, one must be looking forward to get the best quality electric cooling fan for his car and therefore it would be advisable on your end to select a cooling fan that best suits the requirements of your car. Never purchase an electric cooling fan just because it is cheaper than others in the market. You can harm your vehicle's engine in that way and reduce the life of the engine components. Always remember quality is what matters in the end.

These indigenously made electric cooling fans are perfect control systems that provide the bets possible protection for a vehicle or even a system which uses these electric cooling fans. All such kinds of systems use a 30 amp fuse, and in some cases even a temperature sensor, relay and wiring harness are also used up. These parts are used up in automatic vehicles, solar driven cars etc. Relays are required to carry the high amperage needed by electric fans thereby eliminating the load on the car's ignition switch. Temperature sensors are not included with the PRC-35 system which operates whenever the key is on or with a manual switch. Both controls can be used with or without A/C request. Sensors have a 3/8 in. pipe thread.

The electric fans are designed in such a way so as to cool down the environment of the radiator and save the life of your vehicle. You can choose a variety of electric fans from the internet but you must be aware of the specifications that are needed by the vehicle before you get to buy one. The fan is designed in such a way that it automatically turns on when the temperature of the engine goes above a set point. Similarly it stops when the temperature goes back to normal.

Preparation Before Traveling Europe

First of all congratulations for your smart decision to travel one of the best places in the world. Europe would be an ideal place for an explorer or lets say a voyager in an adventurous mood. Before tipping on the preparation, one needs to ensure certain aspects before going to Europe. Lets see a bit of a background for the land of dreams.

Most of the Europe is full of Ultra modern and high-tech cities and exotic destinations. Further more, Europe is divided into two sections. Countries thats a part of the European Union and the countries which are not in the E.U. The Europe has been focusing a lot on the tourism and travelers so theres nothing that would disappoint you.

Preparations before traveling Europe

1.1 Plan your trip

Tickets

There is a lot that awaits you in the Europe so the first and the foremost thing one should do is to think about what exactly your taste is like and what would fancy you more: would it be sleepless and enthusiastic countries like U.K., France, Germany, Netherlands Or rich cultured, full of beautiful countryside, mountains, valleys and nature possessed places like Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Rome, Greece and more?

Well, even though most of the countries are a mixture of all and amazing in their own ways, if you are going there for the first time then a travel maker or tourism companies could be more prolific. They design your trip and know what people like because they are in the business for long, unless you are an explorer who likes to make his own way. Also, traveling on your own may be a bit cheaper, but there are pros and cons.

Most people buy the tickets online because sometimes its cheaper and you dont have to wait in queues or telephone. The best time to book a ticket is actually two three months before you want to go that could save you a lot.

A Schengen visa could probably be another good option, as it includes most of the European countries and you could enter those countries on a single stamp visa, except the U.K. and some other countries, which are not yet on that visa.

Once you are done with your tickets, the second most important thing is to work out your money. There is a common currency for E.U. known as Euros and it could be used in all countries under E.U. Countries like England has Pounds as the currency but you can still work out with Euro.

Money

It is highly advisable that you carry along travelers cheque which is replaceable by its company or bank, just in case you lose them and are easily exchangeable for cash when needed. But, you should also carry some cash which comes in handy when you just arrive at the airport or hotels. A credit card could also be carried along for it is convenient and usable almost everywhere.

Packing

Hopping continents while moving around could be weary and in first place you are out there to enjoy and not sweat.

Europe is cold most of the times so dont forget to carry a jumper or a jacket.

In few countries rain is uncertain to a rain jacket might come in handy.

Always stuff your important documents in a small carry bag or a money belt that sticks around your waist. Also, learn how to stash your money.

Well just pack the right things and avoid stuffing needless things and you are all set to go.

Last but not the least, always reach the airport early at least two hours before the flight departure time.

I wish you all a happy and a safe journey.

The Myth of the Mainstream

'Mainstream' - a principal current of a river, 1667, from main (adj.) + stream, hence, "prevailing direction in opinion, popular taste, etc.," a fig. use first attested in Carlyle (1831).

I propose that the concept of 'the mainstream', be it music, art, ideas, politics, entertainment and all other social constructs, is and has always been a social myth.

The key to this argument lies in the cyclical nature of the market economy, political thought, and technological advancement. For sake of simplicity, I shall concentrate solely on the development and eventual disintegration of the concept of the 'mainstream'.

What came before the MP3? The CD.

And before that? Vinyl.

And before that? Shellac and wax drums for musical boxes.

And before that? Sheet Music. Musical Scores.

As funny as it sounds now, at the very dawn of 'Popular Music' or pop, a 'Hit' technically accounted for the total sales of a sheet of music, a musical score. The expectation and reality of the market was solely reliant on availability of current technologies at the time (namely music boxes and pianos) and the musical ability of the consumer.

For the main part it was more economic to purchase an upright piano rather than a the musical box, purchasing songs for a music box was a privilege of the rich. Imagine paying $500 for an mp3 track? No one in their right mind would, yet the physical nature of such devices meant that supplying a range of music for any device would be beyond the reach of the masses. The 'Player Piano' moved things along somewhat, creating rolls of punch paper reduced the costs considerably. For many this was new technology was still out of reach of the average, or even middle income family.

For most, instead of an Ipod, there would stand, pride of place in the Sitting Room or Parlour, a basic upright piano, of which at least one member would be able to read and play music, and the others would at the very least need to hold a whole gamut of decent notes to make the performance painlessly entertaining. The more savvy music publishers (yes they were printers and nothing more), realized early on that if they wanted to increase their sales they'd need to expand their market.

A few seemingly harmless pointers to publishing a popular 'hit' led to a series of hard and fast rules that held back the creative growth of the music industry for over a century.

Family friendly. Their market was the Middle-Class Family, they had money, Sunday Evenings with little to do, a strong moral and religious upbringing and a very definite idea of what music should do.

It shouldn't offend, anyone, anywhere, anyhow. It cannot include any mention of any controversy. The melody must be light, instantly engaging and simple to follow. The whole family must be able to join in and not feel awkward or embarrassed in anyway. Basically hymns.

The market began to fracture eventually, songs for the kids, religious, risque ditties for young lovers and dirty old men, then came style... jazz, blues, big band. Finally wax rolls for musical boxes gave way to shellac and eventually Vinyl discs and as the sound quality improved, and the availability increased and prices reduced, finally those that played the piano instead of a Gramophone, were the rare exception.

The World has changed a lot since then, but as with all things fashion has a funny habit of repeating itself. More and more iPod fans and mp3 addicts are beginning to manipulate their own collections, with the development of a whole series of cheap and cheerful music mixing software releases on the way, it doesn't seem so far-fetched to imagine a time in the not so distant future where rather than the 'Mainstream' we will be talking in terms of Single Streams, or even the 'Onestream'.

In the past the more forward thinking printers and publishers of the day decided to buy music from songwriters for a pittance, sometimes even steal them outright and make all the profit for themselves. Now things are changing beyond belief.

Anyone can make music to a point with the aid of software and electronic instruments that a child could learn and play within minutes. With the increased interactivity involved in many of the new technologies, the PC being the original focal point, most consumers are no longer purely consuming, they are now producing. Be it their own Tivo TV schedule, the play list on their iPod, the answer phone message they recorded themselves. Consumption was never a creative act, but finally it seems technology is enabling individuals to come to that conclusion by themselves.

Eventually few people will purchase entertainment in any form, simply the means to produce it. As part of my Fine Arts Degree many years ago, I specialized in Photo Montage, appropriating and aggregating a variety of disparate images, and manipulating and combining them to form a new and original work. Nowadays few would ever consider going through the rigmarole of cutting and pasting printed matter when a graphics program and the Internet can provide vast more choice in subject matter and imagery.

Technology has led our actions, or rather inaction for most of the 20th Century, in the 21st we are witnessing the slow decay of Consumerism itself, and at the beginning the first change we are all both witnessing and providing, is technological manipulation of consumer goods.

As the manufacturers of multimedia devices finally catch up with demand we will witness more and more graphic and sound interactivity to the point that most products will simply enable us to create our own entertainment, as we have in histories past. The only difference is that your Bedroom DJ Mix is now heard by the world rather than an unwilling friend or family member. Local heroes and heroines will be born, down the road from my place are the band Keane, a very successful UK pop band from Battle, Sussex. Without the proliferation of social networking technologies I doubt that their meteoric rise to fame would have been as startling.

Other more stark examples are Gnarls Berkley and the Arctic Monkeys, who via the Myspace.com service have become major players in the world music scene. This isn't simply a technological change. The 'Futurism' Arts Movement at the turn of the last century was obsessed with painting fast cars and trains and planes, as much as a young boy might do these days. No one wants to draw an MP3 player, no one wants to write a poem about their Xbox. People want to 'use' them, and they do, all of them.

The idea that materialism can enable anything other than a show of wealth has changed, we no longer have toys, we have tools. Consumption is now lured by the idea of Production, the snake is eating itself.

Within your lifetime, your or someone you know will produce something remarkable, the miraculous is about to become commonplace and the 'Mainstream, obsolete.

The mainstream is diverging into a billion tributaries, the concept of popularity, and eventually mass advertising will dry up, along with monolithic centralized institutions and corporations. We as individuals are finally learning to disagree with each other, we are taking informed and personal choices in our consumption, and eventually the production of our own 'streams'. We fish for ideas, we take those ideas and create our own unique range of arts, entertainment and individual understanding of the world. And when we're bored with our own minds, we trade our goods with others, some like-minded, some not so.

Music, Art, Entertainment, conceived, designed and produced by the individual for the individual. Very much the way we began. Travelling Minstrels, visiting one village and the next, trading music, trading styles, ideas, even new technologies, but for the main part from home.

There never was a mainstream, the concept of the mainstream was conceived for the convenience of unwieldy organizations with little ability or even impetus to change. Like a vast dam, blocking and filtering the river, it is now beginning to crumble, and creative sources and flowing in from all directions, a veritable waterfall of new ideas, sounds and images are about to be born.

Optimize Your Office Space And Productivity With Ergonomic LCD Monitor Arms

LCD Arms

LCD Arms has revolutionized the world of monitor mounts through decades of research and testing, flawlessly combining sleek design and cutting-edge ergonomic innovation to conserve precious desk space and improve performance.

The basic LCD Arm consists of an arm of varying length, sometimes mounted to a pole, always mountable to a desk or wall. This arm has a VESA adapter plate at one end, designed to hold all VESA monitors (the vast majority of all monitors are VESA-compliant). Depending on the make and model, some arms will include mounts for a mouse and keyboard, or for multiple monitors. All of the mounts provide an impressive range of motion from a remarkably small footprint on your desk or floor.

Why Ergonomics?

For as long as most of us can remember, technology has been advancing at a stunning pace, and the results have been tangible: We have put men on the moon, can fit entire databases of music into our back pocket and have devices in our cars that make it so we never have to ask for directions again.

Unfortunately, the price of progress is often paid with bleary eyes, aching backs and carpal tunnel syndrome by those who interact with our technological devices.

Enter the concept of ergonomics - the adaptation of machine to man. Ergonomic products are designed to enhance the interface between technology and the human form. Ergonomics is the science of identifying the physical points of stress, and then minimize or eliminate that stress through superior design.

Why LCD Arms? Space Management

Monitor arms as a whole find their greatest value in space management. From classrooms to dental offices, from the stock market to a home office, space is at a premium and the effective management of that space is essential. An LCD arm or pole mount provides the full use of a monitor at the most comfortable viewing angle while virtually eliminating the monitors footprint on the desk. The arm itself folds down to occupy a space as small as 3 inches wide in some cases.

Versatility

A typical LCD Arm consists of up to three joints, each one boasting a full 360-degrees of rotation. The arm can be adjusted up and down, left and right, and front and back, with additional articulation and rotation available at the joint between monitor and arm. Equally versatile, the FLEXmount system provides six mounting options, including desktop and grommet clamp, thru-desk bolt, and wall mounting.

Ease of Use

Most monitor arms use numerous clamps, bolts and knobs for adjustment, leaving the user in constant danger of monitor drooping, a condition caused by chronically loose joints. LCD Arms monitor arms, however, employ an elegantly simple system powered by a pressurized spring that floats the monitor above the desktop. Repositioning is literally as simple as the touch of a single finger, no doohickeys to tighten or training needed.

Multiple Applications

LCD Arms touts the most extensive and comprehensive collection of monitor arms solutions on the planet. Their award-winning EVO line includes adapters that will hold laptops and tablet PCs along with monitor arms. And keep your eye out for the Cricket, an adjustable portable laptop stand that folds up to fit into a bag or pocket, available sometime in Fall of 07.

Apple users, dont feel left out. LCD Arms iLift and CinemaLift designs are the only line of monitor arms specifically designed for Apple iMac and Cinema Displays.

Health care professionals love LCD Arms because of the intuitive use, maximum flexibility, and durability. Its incredibly handy for a dentist to be able to simply pull a monitor from the wall to the chair to show her patient their x-rays, and effective use of space is crucial in hospital environments.

Apple users, dont feel left out. LCD Arms iLift and CinemaLift designs constitute the only lines of monitor arms specifically designed for Apple iMac and Cinema Displays.

If you haven't read about your work situation here yet, contact one of LCD Arms' vendors. They'll work with you to customize a solution for your home, office, or school.

Basically, whoever you are, wherever your computer is, your work (or the work of those you manage) will benefit from the strategic employment of an LCD Arms monitor. And if you're still not sure that an LCD monitor arm is best for your situation, give one a try. You won't ever switch back.

Will Health Insurance Really Save Money?

Health insurance is a type of an insurance whereby the insurer pays the medical costs of the insured, if the insured becomes sick due to covered causes or due to accidents. A health insurance policy is a legal binding contract between the insurance company and the insured.

Health insurance benefits are many. Health insurance is termed also as accident insurance, sickness insurance and medical insurance. Health insurance is purchased generally, with no assurance of renewability and if renewable no guarantee that premium rates will not increase.

Before getting the health insurance a person who wants to insure, may ask to fill a comprehensive medical history. In that they came to know about whether the person suffered from any disease or he/she has some bad habits such like that. Regarding that the person can claim for insurance with some restrictions.

In our scheduled commitments its very essential to maintain our healthcare in the day-to-day life. You can save money for health insurance by joining in an association that allows members to get together in a local chamber of commerce for the insurance. The money we spent for health insurance will be affordable like our day to day expenses.

Health insurance costs rising in all the time. Many people feel that they cannot afford for health insurance. Some feel they dont need it, because they are healthy and fit. But its wrong. If you think that you need health insurance, there are lots of ways to get affordable health insurance for yourself and to your family. It is a protection against the health problems that could happen in the future. Its a precaution. We have to go by the proverb Prevention Is Better Than Cure.

Health insurance can be classified into two classes- indemnity plans and managed care plans. The basic difference between the two is that while in indemnity plan the insured has the right to approach any doctor and get indemnified of all or a part of the medical expenses; in managed care plans, the insurance company will restrict the insureds choice of doctors and hospitals. The insurance company has entered into an arrangement with select doctors and hospitals for the health care needs.

Each health insurance company has its own set of policies and procedures. If you have a large claim, you will want to review the rules especially carefully. Many claims are denied over a simple technicality. Knowing the process is likely to help you make sure your claim does not get denied.

Remember, insurance companies are hoping that you will not need medical services. That is how they make their money. If you don't use your insurance, the insurance company just gets to keep it. You will notice that the bigger the claim, the more paperwork you will need to fill out and the more red tape you will need to wade through.

If you receive medical services that should be covered by your insurance, make sure that the doctor or hospital files the appropriate forms. Make sure that you file any forms that you need to in a timely manner. If you have any questions, call the insurance company directly and find out the answer. Make notes of whom you speak to and when.

Health insurance really saves your money. In case, if you met with an accident or you suffer from severe attack. That time you may not in the position to spend that much of amount. But if you applied for a health insurance, it may saves your money otherwise you can claim for the amount that you had spent. In some cases they may not take into account about insurance that time you may spend your money and later you can claim for the amount you spend by providing proper documents and you can reimburse the amount you spend on it, if its reasonable according to the instructions.

Insurances can be manage by both lower and higher level peoples. Every state has a Medicaid program but the requirements vary from state to state. All you have to do is to fill out the application and submit the documentation about your finances. This program covers the insurance needs of the entire family including dental care, eye care, doctor visits, emergency care, prescriptions and more.

Another option for cheap health insurance is to look on the internet. There are lot of companies that offers different type of health insurance plans. It is possible to find out the perfect for your family. The costs vary from one to other, so its in your hand to verify about it and choose a better company among others. Any way health insurance safeguards your family from the expenses that you spend for your health.

10 Ways To Add Happiness To A Couple Relationship

Relationships, especially couple relationships, can be trying at times, but it's not hard to be a happy couple. Below are 10 simple, everyday ways to keep things fresh and good.

1. Make eye contact with each other. Eye contact should be made especially

a. when you are discussing something serious and
b. when you say those three little words. Come on, you know what I'm talking about!

2. Never forget to put your beloved first. Be ready to drop everything for him or her at any time. Remind yourself time after time how blessed you are.

3. Make sure you tell them how important they are to you. This is simple yet an easy thing to forget.

4. Don't take anything for granted. Remember, you two are soul mates, and you don't find soul mates every day because it is not easy to find. There is a good reason you two are together, so don't forget how special that is.

5. Keep up the physical contact with each other. When you come home from a long day at work, remember to give your partner a big hug. You don't even have to say anything at all. Physical contact helps us to remind how we feel about each other, without having to use words to express it.

6. When you have a tough and stressful day, leave the day's stresses behind. Cool down; time spent with your partner should be relaxing. It should be the best time of the day; the time you look forward to.

7. Find out what are your dreams as well as your partner's dreams. Share these with each other. This will help to draw you together. You should always be honest about what you want out of life and your relationship. If you don't say it, how can he or she know?

8. Give each other gifts for no reason. You would be amazed what a boost this gives to a relationship between man and woman. When they ask you what it is, just tell them that you thought of them when you saw the thing you purchased.

9. Always be supportive to your partner. Tell them clearly that whatever trials and troubles they have, you will be there by their side. Weathering the storm together will strengthen your love, make it stronger. Knowing that nothing will break you apart. also gives you confidence,

10. Listen men: Opening the door for her is always a good thing to do as well as compliment her new hairdo or clothes. Remember to keep the toilet seat down.

Somebody will that such things sound insignificant. If you are among them, you need to keep this list in your breast pocket and get to studying it!

Stargazing: A Really Cheap Hobby

For anyone looking for a hobby that is interesting, challenging, and free (yes, you heard right, FREE!), allow me to introduce you to the world of stargazing.

After the sun goes down, theres a big, wondrous, fascinating universe up there. And contrary to popular opinion, you really dont need a telescope to enjoy it. (More on telescopes later.) With nothing but your bare eyes, you can see stars, constellations, planets, clusters, meteors, the Milky Way, nebulae, our moon, and yes even a galaxy!

In this world of television, computers, the internet, electric lights, indoor air conditioning, and a plethora of electronic entertainment, we creatures of modern technology tend to be rather illiterate when it comes to identifying easily-viewed celestial objects. Many have heard the names of things like constellations and planets all our lives, but would be at a loss to identify them.

When I was in the third grade, I read in my school science book that five of the planets are easily visible to the bare eye! Excitedly, I showed the passage in the book to my teacher, anxiously awaiting details on how to find them. Alas, my poor teacher did not know. It would be many years before I finally learned how myself.

And so, in this article, I will introduce you to the night sky and point out several easily-identifiable objects that you should be able to find. Hopefully, you will be inspired so that tonight, you will step outside and see them for yourself!

Constellations & asterisms

Constellations are your road map to the sky. They are to the sky what continents are to the land; you use them to find your way around. All stargazing starts with constellations.

But first, a few facts about constellations. First of all, know that all constellations are not created equal. Its not a democracy up there. Some constellations are big and bright and beautiful and easy to spot; others are, shall we say, not. So the first thing the stargazer should do is forget about the dumpy ones, and concentrate instead on the good ones. In this article, I will only point the best of the best.

Secondly, know about both constellations and asterisms. Both terms mean a group of stars that appears to draw a pattern. The difference between the words is really one of bureaucratic officialdom. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is the organization that puts its official stamp of approval on everything in the sky, and the IAU has divided the sky into exactly 88 official constellations. An asterism is simply a star pattern with no official recognition. However, this does not mean that constellations are better than asterisms. In fact, many asterisms are much easier to see and identify. Asterisms may overlap and intersect official constellations in all manner of ways. In this article, I will specify which is which.

So here we go, with a handful of some of my favorite constellations and asterisms, all of them visible from most of the Northern hemisphere at various times of the year:

The big dipper is one everyone should already know. What you may not know is that its really an asterism, part of the constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear. The dipper resides in the northern part of the sky, and reaches its highest point in the springtime. It is also an important asterism in that we use some of its stars as pointers. The two stars at the end of the bowl can be used to find Polaris, the north star. The handle of the dipper is used to find the bright star Arcturus. Incidentally, forget about the Little Dipper; its not a good constellation at all.

Cassiopeia is also in the far northern sky, reaching its highest peak in the fall. It looks like a big W.

Cygus, the swan, flies through the Milky Way. Shaped somewhat like a cross, it is sometimes refered to as the Northern Cross. It contains the bright star Deneb as the tail.

The summer triangle is an excellent asterism. Its a great big 30-60-90 triangle, for all you math geeks out there (many asterisms resemble geometric shapes). In late summer/early fall, its high up in the sky. The 90-degree angle star - the brightest of the trio - is Vega, part of the constellation Lyra (the lyre, a harp-like instrument). The 60-degree star is Deneb from the constellation Cygnus, and the 30-degree star is Altair from Aquila (the eagle).

Orion is one everyone should know. Its most distinguished feature are the three belt stars, lined up in a row. It contains two important stars: Betelgeuse (pronounced beetle-juice), an orange-colored star in the upper left corner; its name means shoulder; and Rigel, and blueish star in the lower right corner; its name means foot. Orion is in the southern part of the sky, reaching its maximum height in the late winter.

Canis Major means the Big Dog. Its in the southern sky, just to the lower right of Orion in late winter, and really does look like a dog. Canis major contains the star Sirius, sometimes called the dog star, as the dogs neck. Sirius is numero uno, the #1 brightest star in the entire sky, and has a blueish tint.

Auriga, the charioteer. Heres one youve probably never heard of. But its very easy to spot. It looks like a pentagon, high up overhead in late winter. It contains the bright star Capella.

Scorpio. One of the zodiac constellations, and this one is a beaut. It really looks like a scorpion. Its low in the deep southern sky in the summertime. Observers in the northern U.S. or Europe might not be able to see all of it. Its main star is Antares, a reddish star; the name means rival of Mars, because when the planet Mars is nearby, they look quite similar.

Sagittarius. Another great zodiac constellation, but it doesnt look at all like a its intended representation of a centaurian archer. Rather, it looks like a teapot. Evidently, the ancient stargazers had a lot more imagination that us. Look for it in late summer, low in the southern sky. Sagittarius faces the center of our galaxy. The most dense region of the Milky Way is right about the teapots spout; it looks like steam.

Leo. This zodiac constellation really does look like a lion. Look high in the sky in the springtime. It contains the star Regulus, which means Little King, in the lions front paw.

Gemini. Under clear, dark skies, this zodiac constellation will look like two little guys standing here holding hands. But if your viewing conditions are less than ideal (which is just about anyone who lives in a city), the only part you will probably be able to spot are the two bright head stars Castor and Pollux. They are about 4 fingers apart, with your hand held at arms length. Gemini is high overhead in late winter.

Taurus. This zodiac constellation does not look like a bull, and in fact, doesnt have any kind of recognizable shape at all, other than a sort of a figure V at its heart. But it contains the Pleiades, a small but very visible star cluster, sometimes called the Seven sisters. In Japan, the Pleiades is called Subaru. Taurus also contains the reddish-colored bright star Aldebaran. Look for Taurus high in the sky in late winter.

The Great Square is a somewhat dim asterism viewed high in the sky in the fall. Forming an almost perfect square, it is comprised of two stars each from the constellations Pegasus and Andromeda. The Great Square, like the Big Dipper, is useful as a pointer to find other celestial objects such as the bright star Fomalhaut.

The Great Hexagon. I have saved the best for last. This asterism is a challenge to trace, but its worth it, as it contains six of the best stars in the entire sky. It stretches all the way from near the sourthern horizon to nearly straight overhead. Starting at it southern-most point, we have Sirius from Canis Major. Going counter-clockwise, next is Rigel from Orion, then Aldebaran from Taurus, then Capella from Auriga takes us to the northern-most point. Continuing, we have Pollux from Gemini, then Procyon from Canis Minor (the little dog). Canis minor is a celestial version of a one-hit-wonder; it only has one star visible to the unaided eye! Continuing counter-clockwise, we are now back at Sirius. The hexagon is visible in late winter. And if you are suspecting that late winter is the best time of the year for stargazing, you are correct!

Stars

Now with a good roadmap of constellations to navigate by, we turn our attention the main attraction: stars. And as we did with constellations, the focus will primarily be on bright, easily identifiable stars.

Star names. The first thing to know about stars is that they have names. There are several systems out there for naming stars.

The common name of a star is the name that has been referred to throughout the discussion on constellations. Examples are: Sirius, Capella, and Aldebaran. Most star common names have been around for many centuries.

Another star naming system is the Bayer name, after a famous astronomer, also known as the scientific name. The Bayer name consists of two words: The 2nd word is the name of the constellation where the star resides (actually the constellation name with an i suffix). The 1st word of the Bayer name is a letter of the Greek alphabet, starting with alpha for the brightest star, beta for the next-to-brightest, etc. Thus, Alpha Orioni would be the Bayer name for the brightest star in Orion, which has the common name of Betelgeuse.

The final star naming system is a catalog designation. Throughout history, astronomers, in conjunction with publishing companies, have compiled star catalogs. Some of the popular ones are HD (Henry Draper) and SAO (Smithsonian Astronomical Observatory). Thus a star catalog designation might look something like HD 12345.

And while were on the subject of star names, please dont get conned into buying a star. These companies, that are so eager to take your money, have absolutely no official status among astronomers. Only the IAU bestows names on celestial objects, and they dont sell naming rights. Besides, whatever star you buy will be far to dim to be seen without a monster telescope. If you want to name a star, just step outside and pick one. Its free, has exactly the same official validity as any one of these companies, and at least youll be able to see it.

Fixed positions. All stars have a fixed position on a giant, imaginary ball that astronomers call the celestial sphere. The celestial sphere has a north pole and a south pole, directly above the Earths north and south poles respectively, and an equator, directly above the Earths equator. The celestial sphere also has a grid coordinate system analogous to the terrestrial latitude and longitude system. In the sky, the lines running east and west are called lines of Declination, and like latitude on the Earth, are measured in degrees, where the equator is zero and the poles are 90. The lines in the sky running north and south that converge at the poles are called Right Ascension, broken into 24 units called hours, each of which is broken into 60 units call minutes. Thus, any star can be pinpointed by its position coordinates, which do not change.

Brightness & color. All stars have a brightness rating we call magnitude. The magnitude scale used by astronomers is an inverse logarithmic scale. Whoa, thats a mouthful! But its not as bad as it sounds. Inverse scales are all around us; for example, if you were to rate your five best friends, you would give the best one a rank of #1, your second-to-best one a rank of #2, etc; this is a classic inverse scale. And logarithmic scales are commonly used to measure the energy or intensity of something, such as the Richter scale used to measure earthquakes, or the decibel scale used to measure sound volume.

The original magnitude scale, established way back in the B.C. days, rated stars from 1 to 5, where 1 were the brightest and 5 were those barely visible to the unaided eye under dark, clear skies. Then when telescopes began being used by astronomers, they discovered that stars much dimmer than magnitude 5 existed, so they naturally extended the scale to numbers larger than 5. But at the other end of the scale, they began using more precise instruments to measure their brightness, instead of just eyeballing them as did the ancient observers. What astronomers learned were that not all magnitude 1 stars were created equal; some were considerably brighter than others. So they kept the original magnitude scale and simply extended it to the next smaller number, which was zero, and then kept going, into the negative numbers.

So today, Sirius, the brightest star in the heavens, has a magnitude of minus 1.4 (note the use of decimal numbers). The full moons magnitude is measured at minus thirteen! For reference purposes, the star Vega (part of the Summer Triangle) has a magnitude of almost exactly 0, and Spica (of the constellation Virgo) has a mag of almost exactly 1. For a mag of 2, all (but one) of the stars of the Big Dipper have mag 2.

There are exactly 9 stars on the celestial sphere with a magnitude or zero or less (brighter). There are 12 stars where the magnitude rounds to 1. There are about 50 with a rounded mag of 2; 150 with a mag of 3; 600 with mag 4; and about 1500 with mag 5. Thus, the number of stars in each magnitude group roughly triples with each increment.

Finally, stars have color. Most are white, but some have yellow, blue, green, orange or reddish tints.

List of Stars. So now, with a firm grasp of star properties, here is a chart of all the magnitude zero-and-above stars, listing in descending order of brightness. Assuming that you live in the U.S. or Europe, I have excluded stars that are too far south to be seen from your latitude, which is why there are some gaps in the chart.

The chart includes the root of the stars common name, and some notes on how to find it. You should begin memorizing this chart right away!

Rank Name Constellation color name means how to find it

Planets

As mentioned earlier, all stars have a fixed, measurable position on the celestial sphere. But the ancient stargazers were puzzled by five star-like points of light in the night sky that broke the mold and seemed to wandered about. So they named them planets, after the Latin word for wanderer.

These five points of light are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter. Today we know that they, plus the Earth and scores of other objects, orbit around the sun. But your task as a stargazer is to learn how to identify them!

Here is a chart of some planetary statistics, the relevancy to be discussed below:

Planet Orbits sun Max magnitude
Mercury 88 days -1.9
Venus 225 days -4.4
Mars 1.9 years -2.0
Jupiter 12 years -2.7
Saturn 30 years +0.7

The Zodiac. We will first discuss where and when to find the planets. Know first that the solar system is flat, like a pancake. This means that the sun, the moon, the planets, and every object in the solar system, even the moons of the planets, appear to us Earthlings in the same narrow band, or belt. This circular belt has been traced through the heavens, and is called the zodiac.

The zodiac band was divided up by the ancient astronomers into twelve regions, each of these regions represented by a constellation. The word zodiac actually means circle of animals because most of the constellations represent animals. Your task as a stargazer is to learn the zodiac constellations, for that is where you will find the planets.

Here is a list of the zodiac constellations, ordered from east to west, with some viewing notes:

Name main stars best viewed viewing notes good?

Aries winter
Taurus Aldebaran winter Pleiades cluster *
Gemini Castor, Pollux winter 2 bright head stars *
Cancer spring Beehive cluster
Leo Regulus spring resembles a lion *
Virgo Spica spring
Libra summer has a green star
Scorpio Antares summer resembles a scorpion *
Sagittarius summer teapot asterism *
Capricorn fall
Aquarius fall
Pisces fall

Next, you need to know which planet is found in which constellation, and when. Heres a good website with that info:
http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/Planets/

The chart at the above website will show that, for example, in the last quarter of 2006, Jupiter will be found in the constellation Libra.

The bad news is that many of the zodiac constellations arent worth looking at because they are too dim or too hard to trace. In the Zodiac chart above, I have included a Good column and flagged the better ones. If a planet appears in a not-so-good constellation, you will need to interpolate.

Inner versus outer planets. Mercury and Venus are inner planets because they are closer to the sun than is the Earth. Viewing inner planets is different from viewing outer planets in several ways. To begin, inner planets are only viewed either in the west right after dusk, or in the east right before dawn. (Anyone who says they saw Venus at midnight last night does not know what they are talking about.) All charts and guides for viewing inner planets will always say E for evening or M for morning.

Inner planets are best viewed when they are at elongation. This is when the Earth, the sun, and the planet are at their widest angle out of alignment. At elongation, the inner planet is at its highest peak above the horizon. And even then, we Earthly observers are only seeing the planet on edge. Only the rather small portion of the inner planet that is illuminated by the sun is visible. If you were to view one of them in a telescope, it would look like a crescent moon.

Heres a good website for finding when inner planets are at elongation:
http://www.jgiesen.de/skymap/MercuryVenus/

The elongation chart at the above website would show that, for example, Venus will be at elongation on the evening of June 9, 2007. Venus is an easy planet to locate. With a solar orbit of 225 days, it moves relatively slowly among the constellations, and so appears on the zodiac finder chart listed on the website given earlier. It will be far enough above the horizon to be seen for many weeks before and after its elongation date.

Mercury, on the other hand, is very elusive. With a solar orbit of only 88 days, it doesnt stay in any zodiac constellation long enough to count, and so it does not appear on any zodiac finder chart. It never rises very high above the horizon, and even when it does, it doesnt stay there long. You have, at most, about a week before or after an elongation to get a view of it. According the website listed above, Mercurys first elongation in 2007 will be on the evening of Feb 7.

Outer planets, in contrast have an opposition. This is when the sun, the Earth, and the planet aligns. Outer planets can typically be seen at any time of the night for many months before or after their opposition date. Here is a good website for obtaining opposition dates:
http://www.astropro.com/homeIE45.html

The above website would show, for example, that Jupiter will be at opposition on Jun 5, 2007.

What do planets look like? At first glance, planets dont look significantly different from stars. But notice the magnitudes in the Planetary Statistics chart above. Planets, for the most part, are considerably brighter than most stars!

Note, however, that planetary magnitudes are quite variable. It is greatly influenced by variables such at its distance to the Earth, and in the case of inner planets, by the angle of elongation.

For the ancient astronomers, Mars has caused the most intrigue among all the visible planets. The first reason for this is the color. All the other planets are a dull white; Mars is red. The second reason relates to timing. All the other planets are visible every year, at some point. But with a solar orbit of 1.9 years, it takes about two and a half years for the Earth and Mars to catch up with each other. Thus, Mars only makes an heavenly appearance every other year, or less.

Other Celestial Objects

So weve covered constellations, asterisms, stars, and planets. What else is there? Actually, quite a lot. And no article on stargazing without some discussion of:

The Moon. Our closest celestial neighbor does not get must respect among astronomers. We stargazers like our night skies nice and dark, and the moon is considered a bright nuisance. Thus, you might want to consider the moon phase before selecting a good night to stargaze. Here is a website to get lunar cycle data:
http://stardate.org/nightsky/moon/

The Milky Way. On clear, dark nights, you should be able to see this dim, narrow band stretching across the heavens. You are looking edgewise at our galaxy. The word galaxy, in fact, comes from the Latin work for milk.

Like the solar system, our galaxy is flat, like a pancake, so when you look down the edge, you are looking through its densest parts. All published constellation charts will show it.

The center of the Milky Way is toward the constellation Sagittarius.

Comets. Comets are part of the solar system. However, they are the non-conformists; unlike other members, they are rarely found on the solar system plane. That means they could be seen anywhere in the sky, not just in the zodiac. Comets that are bright enough to be seen by the unaided eye, however are very rare, averaging about one a decade or so.

Deep Sky Objects. This broad category includes galaxies, clusters, and nebulae. By definition, a deep sky object is outside of the solar system; thus, comets are not included. Only a small handful of deep sky objects can be seen with the unaided eye, and most of these require exceptionally dark, clear skies.

Here is a list of some of the brightest deep sky objects:

Object Type common name constellation magnitude
M45 cluster Pleiades Taurus 1.2
M44 cluster Beehive Cancer 3.1
M31 galaxy Andromeda Andromeda 3.5
M42 nebulae Orion Nebula Orion 4.0
M6 cluster Butterfly Cluster Scorpio 4.2

The M moniker refers to the Messier deep sky catalog, named after the French astronomer who was actually looking for comets. Deep sky objects, like stars, have lots of catalogs, but the Messier is very popular to this day.

The Pleiades cluster, also known as the Seven Sisters, is very well known and easy to spot.

The Andromeda galaxy is the most distant object in the heavens that can be seen with the unaided eye.

A good technique for viewing deep sky objects is to use what stargazers refer to as averted vision. The basic idea is that the most sensitive part of our eyes is not the center of the retina, but the area just next to it. Therefore, when viewing a very dim object, do not look directly at it, but rather, look just ever-so-slightly to the side of it, and it will appear brighter.

Telescopes

A common misperception is that a telescope is absolutely essential to see the night sky. In fact, many people, thinking that they or their children might be interested in astronomy, rush out and buy a telescope. An astronomy telescope is a wonderful tool, but there are a couple of important facts that a prospective purchaser should know. First, using a telescope requires considerable knowledge, skill, and patience. Secondly, a telescope of high-enough quality to actually see anything in good detail is terribly expensive.

As has been repeatedly pointed out in this article: there is much to see up there that you really dont need special equipment for. But if you find that you thoroughly enjoy stargazing, and would like to see more than your bare eyes can see, then and only then do you become a good candidate to purchase a scope.

An astronomy telescope is essentially a light bucket. While the pupils in our eyes will only open to, at most, about a quarter of an inch in diameter, a telescope lens (or mirror) is much, much larger, allowing it to gather considerable more light. Thus, when it comes to telescopes, diameter size is everything. The bigger, the better. (The worlds largest telescope, located in Hawaii, is over 30 feet in diameter!) However, by the same token, the bigger the scope, the harder it is to haul it around and set it up. A scope so cumbersome to use that you never use it is not much of a buy.

Resources

There are many, many articles, books, magazines, websites, and other tools to help stargazers find their way around the sky. This article just covers the bare minimum; there is much, much more out there.

An excellent beginners book is The Stars by H.A. Rey, the author behind the Curious George series of childrens books.

The internet, not surprisingly, has an awesome wealth of information on astronomy. One of the very best sites is:
http://skytonight.com/

Sky Tonight has a java applet called the Interactive Sky Chart, an incredible tool that will show you the sky at any place on Earth, at any requested date and time. The display includes the positions of the planets, the sun, and the moon. This is far and above the easiest way to know where the planets are!

To really appreciate the night sky, however, requires some serious memorization. You need to memorize the names and shapes of all the easily-identified constellations, and the list of the 21 brightest stars.

Happy stargazing!

Exposing the SCAM behind Affiliate Project X

If you are in Affiliate Marketing, you need to read on...

Why? Because I am going to expose the Affiliate Project X (or APX) Scam here. You have probably heard about this ebook and asked yourself these questions....

(1) Is this just another scam on the Internet?
(2) Is it overhyped?
(3) Can I make money after reading the ebook?
(4) Is it the real deal?
(5) etc.. etc...

I have purchased and read the book. And firstly, I want to answer the 2nd question... Is Affiliate Project X (APX) overhyped? The answer is yes the ebook is overhyped. The reason why it is overhyped is because the ebook promises to reveal top secrets that other internet marketing gurus don't want you to know.

But is it true? Read on...

I personally think that not all the methods taught in the ebook are unique or new. Some of the methods have been used and taught by many successful affiliates. But for some reasons, not many people are using them. APX just repackage the ideas and make it clearer to everyone who reads it.

Is it a scam? You will be able to answer this question after you read my review...

The more interesting question is can you make money after reading it? Well.. the answer is no if you just read and don't apply it. You will be disappointed if you expect immediate return because it is not a "get-rich-quick" scheme. You can only make money if you learn and apply the methods taught in the ebook consistently. Period.

Now Let me outline what the ebook covers so we can answer whether it is a scam or not.

Here it goes... the ebook teaches 6 methods:

Method #1: The "LEECH"
This method is not new but not many people are using it. Why? Because there is some learning curve here. APX reveals the proven formula with concrete example. It is the art of selling on the net. If you are willing to spend some efforts to learn the art, you will beat most of your competitors. I followed his formula and monitored my sales went up 50%. But the downside is I spent lot of time reading, learning and applying the art and then changing my web sites. I can't expose all the details here because it won't be fair to the author. You need to buy the ebook and get the details. APX will show you step by step how to master the art quickly and beat the competition.

Method #2: The "AFFILIATE DIARY"
This method is also not new and has been taught by other gurus. But the problem here is many people do it the wrong way. It is about building your list and making money at the same time. Many people has gone the wrong path and delay the monetizing process. If you buy APX, please read page 21 very carefully about "impulse purchase". This method not only helps me to build my list but also increase my income. Very powerful technique taught here. This method alone cost more than the price of the ebook. I love this method. If I were to write the book, I will call this method "Build and Monetize". Again the ebook outlines lots more details about this method.

Method #3: The "WORKHORSE"
Now this method is only useful for the hard-working people, it involves some works (that's why it is called workhorse). If you are lazy, this method is useless to you. If you want to quit your day job and make a full-time living from affiliate marketing, this method is for you. But first please ask yourself this question and answer honestly: How bad do you want to quit your job? If you are not sure, please don't do it. If you want to quit your job badly, use this method. APX will give you the step by step instructions how to make $50-$200 per day within 30 days. Again I want to mention one more time, you need to have a mentality like a horse to make this works.

Method #4: "THIEF IN THE NIGHT"
Please note that this method is not about teaching you to steal other people's works or ideas. It is about following what the successful affiliates do. If I were to write APX, I will rename it as "FOLLOW THE LEADERS". This is exactly what the method teaches. It shows you how to identify those successful affiliates and find out what they do then follow them. If you buy APX, please read page 34-36 carefully and do it. Surprisingly, it is not difficult to uncover what those super affiliates do. The trick is you need to know how to do it.

Method #5: "FOLLOW THE BEST PART 2"
Perhaps you wonder why this is "PART 2"? While Method #4 teaches you some basic skills to follow the best without any automated tool, this method requires you to use an automated tool. I love this automated tool because it basically automates the efforts of uncovering the best affiliates and what they do to make money on the net. If you are serious about affiliate marketing, this tool is indispensable. Now I can't live without this tool :-)

Method #6: The "OPPORTUNIST"
Would you like to know how to discover hot products early before others? This method will show you the way. But if you are new with Affiliate Marketing, I suggest you focus more energy on method #1-5 first. Because when you are new, it is best to focus on few great products and work hard to promote them so you can make some money. If you follow method #6, you will need to spend money to invest and experience the new products quite often. Therefore you need to have the skills and experiences to promote and sell products quickly to recoup your investment costs. New affiliates may not have the money and skills to buy and sell products quickly.

------------------
So these are the 6 methods taught in Affiliate Project X (APX). The last chapter of the book discusses some advanced tricks such as link cloaking, sales tracking, backend sales and promotion methods. If you read the ebook, pay close attention on page 42 about "Backend Sales" because I used this technique and experienced positive results (I experienced an increase in repeat sales from existing customers).

Now is APX a scam? Well.. for me it is definitely not a scam because I have learned and applied the methods and made money. But for those people who had purchased and did not apply the methods, they will say it is a scam. So it depends which categoty are you in?

Gene Variation Slowing Metabolism Of Caffeine May Play A Role For Increase Risk Of Heart Attack In Some Individuals

Drinking coffee and the increase risk of having a heart attack has been under debate for a long time. Some researchers say the risk lies within your genes, and one particular variation in a gene can slow metabolism of caffeine and increase the risk of heart attack.

Coffee is the most commonly stimulant used around the world by millions of people every day. If researchers could determine for a fact it is harmful physicians would be able to identify patients most at risk of heart disease and give advice against coffee drinking. Further is that no one knows exactly what chemical in coffee could be involved in the increased risk of heart disease. It is an issue widely debated. Caffeine is probably the chemical most thought of as the culprit. Whether or not caffeine works alone to cause the risk or when combined with other chemicals or other factors is also unknown. Research about whether or not coffee increases the risk of having a heart attack continues to be very important.

Research has revealed:

Caffeine is metabolized mainly in the liver through the action of a particular enzyme called cytochrome P450 1A2.

There are variations in the gene that causes cells to make this enzyme

Some variations can speed caffeines metabolism and others can slow it

A case control study involving 2014 people was done by researchers from Harvard School of Public Health, the University of Costa Rica and the University of Toronto. When the case control study was complete, researchers had all groups of people in the study fill out a questionnaire about the kinds of food they ate and the beverages they drank. The questionnaire provided researchers with information about how much coffee with caffeine people in each group drank. Information from the questionnaire and the case control study (which required a blood test of participants) enabled researchers to determine whether coffee drinking and the gene variation were associated with an increased risk of having a heart attack.

Researchers of this study found the risk of heart attack may be increased in coffee drinkers who have a gene variation that causes slow caffeine metabolism.

The study suggested a role for caffeine in association between coffee drinking and heart attack in some individuals. More research is needed to prove definitely that the caffeine in coffee causes heart attack in the group of people with a genetic variation.

Find Your Creative Muse With A Career In Cosmetology

There are a lot of different careers available to anyone with the right skills. What about those of us that tend to be more creative and just can't stand the thought of sitting through four more years of schooling? The answer may be in exploring a career in Cosmetology.

To work in this field does require obtaining additional training and experience typically received through a beauty college. Beauty colleges however are unlike the hours of book work and study that is offered at the local community or four year college however. Much of the schooling is in the form of training for your future work in the field.

Much of beauty college is the study of "how to" and practical application offering real, usable information. Yes, there is book work and study but the main focus is to get the you ready and competent to work in the field or cosmetology as an aesthetician. Most states require that you pass a written exam and have a certain number of hours experience. This is where a good beauty school ready shines. Part of the curriculum is actually hands on doing the hours on real people. Many people go to beauty schools to get their hair, nails, and even waxing done at a cut rate price. For the lower price, the customer has a student doing the work, which gives them experience, all under the watchful eye of knowledgeable staff.

There are many career paths that open once you receive your certification how about these ideas to launch your career.

1. There's the typical hair and nail salon. These are the franchised hair cutting places that seem to be popping up everywhere. This is mass produced haircutting. Your income is based a lot on the speed you're able to complete each customer.

2. Then there's the more exclusive salon. Many who work in these establishments have developed not only a clientele but a reputation for high quality work. it's not unusual for a stylist in these high end salons to charge well over 100 dollars for a simply haircut and style.

3. Home care or shut in personal service. If working for yourself is a dream, there are many older citizens with less mobility that would love home beauty care.

4. Working in the entertainment industry. Make-up artists and aesthetician positions are available to those with the right certifications.

5. How about working with the dead. That's right, funeral homes employ cosmetology specialists to make the deceased look their best for the family viewing. This can actually be very lucrative because many people simply can't imagine working with dead bodies.

These are but a few of the many opportunities open to anyone with a certification in cosmetology. So if you're creative, talented and love working with people, consider a beauty college to get on this interesting and challenging career path.

Trailer Hitches 101 - A Guide To Towing

Attaching a trailer hitch to your car, van or SUV enables you to tow all kinds of loads. However, its not as simple as just fitting any old tow bar to your vehicle. Which type of trailer hitch you should use depends on the towing capacity of your vehicle and it would be unsafe to attempt to haul a heavier load. It is important to refer to your vehicle owners manual for information before fitting a towing hitch.

Then you must make sure you use the correct class of trailer hitch for the weight you intend to pull. Class 1 hitches can haul up to 2,000lbs, where as at the other end of the scale, Class 5 hitches can have a weight capacity of over 10,000lbs.

As a general guide, ball hitches are one of the most common types of trailer hitch and can easily be fitted to cars, SUVs and trucks. They have a ball that attaches to the socket of the trailer and are able to haul a variety of loads.

Heavy duty trailer hitches are required for heavier loads, such as hauling horse boxes, agricultural or industrial equipment. Gooseneck hitches use a ball mount, but are mounted on a central position on the underside of a truckbed, for increased stability and more even weight distribution. They are not suitable for use on cars.

Fifth wheel hitches are also fastened to the truckbed. This type of trailer hitch is mounted on a steel plate and becomes a permanent feature of the truckbed. Some fifth wheel trailer hitches require sliders for safer and smoother maneuvers. They have varying weight capacities, depending on the vehicle.

If you buy a trailer hitch, providing it is compatible with your vehicle and with a suitable towing capacity, it should be easy to install in around 30 minutes and be of lots of use for many years to come.

Teacher Tips 101: Things You Need To Know About Cset

Education can be considered as a basic need- more than a necessity rather than mere luxury. That is why it is very important to ensure the quality of education that teachers get for them to be able to carry on a noble task- the task of molding others' future.

In this regard, the California Commission on Teachers Credentialing (CCTC) continues to facilitate the CSET (or California Subject Examination for Teachers) for California students to receive instructions of great academic standards. A teacher has to be competitive in all aspects; something that CCTC has to ensure. And aside from the reviews that teachers have to make, they still have all the procedures that they have to follow to take CSET.

Here are some things that teachers have to keep in mind when they are intending to take CSET.

- What are the CSET tests that a teacher can take?

Teachers can choose from the various CSET programs: the Multiple Subjects Test, the Preliminary Educational Technology Test, the Writing Skills Test and the Single Subjects test.

- What are the differences between the test types?

The Multiple Subjects Test allows the bearer to teach all subjects that he or she is qualified in teaching in a classroom. This style has been commonly used in Elementary settings. The students learn most basic subjects (if not all) from one teacher.

A Single Subject Test, in turn, allows a bearer to teach a certain subject of expertise in a departmentalized setting, most commonly seen in secondary schools. In this kind of setting, students receive instructions from teachers specialized in handling a certain subject.

- Do I need to take the Preliminary Educational Technology Test?

Even if a teacher has been certified to be proficient in a certain subject, he or she has to be proficient enough to handle the technologies used in teaching; The CSET Preliminary Technology Test handles that task.

- Where do i get review guides for CSET? Teachers have options in getting review guides. There are review guides which you can buy. However, you can save money by checking the electronic review guides available at the CSET official website.

- How do I register for CSET?

Here are the steps that teachers have to follow in registering for CSET.

Teachers who intend to take the CSET exam can visit the CSET website. Registration is available all the time. However, the cut-off time to be observed is 5 in the afternoon, Pacific time.

Registration forms can also be sent by mail, but the 5 p.m. cut-off time still applies.

Another option to take into consideration would be to call the CSET hotline to register via phone. Please refer to the CSET website for the numbers to contact.

- How do I pay for CSET?

CSET takers can check the CSET website for specific payments. The payment dues can be paid via MasterCard of Visa if the test taker registered online or thru phone. For test takers who registered thru mail, payments can be made thru personal checks, and money order, aside from the options available to those who registered online.

The task of educating others toward their future is a hard task indeed. But teachers do not have to worry, for CSET would just be a breeze, if you take these things in mind.

Star Trek Celebration In Hollywood Salutes The Women Of Trek November 14

40 Years of Star Trek celebrated in Hollywood on November 14

Pop quiz. What do Lucille Ball, an ex-cop and a certain pointy-eared, green skinned alien have in common? Believe it or not, the cop and the Vulcan both worked for the redheaded comic icon during the early days of Star Trek.

We were told that Star Trek would let us boldly go where no man has gone before.

But there were women who went into the unknown, too.

These are the women who traipsed among the stars.

Nichelle Nichols was one of the first. Playing Communications Officer Lt. Uhura on the Original Series, she showed women and racial minorities that there was a future for us. Nichols thought about leaving the show after the first series because her role wasnt very substantial but after talking to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., she changed her mind. He told her that people needed to see a Black Woman when they envisioned the future.

Nichols role in space wasnt over with the cancellation of the show. She has remained active with NASA, helping to recruit women and minorities to the space agency.

On the original pilot for Star Trek, Majel Barrett played Captain Pikes Executive Officer, a position NBC executives in 1966 vetoed. Barrett was recast as Nurse Chapel in the original series and went on to become the only actor to have a role of some kind in every single Star Trek series.

On The Next Generation, there were two strong women who came to embody the series. While they were still in support roles, Gates McFadden as Doctor Beverly Crusher and Marina Siritis as Counselor Deanna Troi were active participants in the series. Dr. Crusher was gentle. Counselor Troi was insightful.

By the time Deep Space Nine rolled around, it was time to give women a leadership role. Nana Visitor played the prickly Kira Nerys. No longer were women always sweet, all the time, Visitor had a more complex personality.

And then came Voyager. Women made up a large portion of the cast starting with Captain Kathryn Janeway played by Katherine Mulgrew, was a take charge, no nonsense leader who had to guide her motley crew of Starfleet officers and Maquis rebels through the Delta Quadrant back home.

She was assisted by several other strong women. One was BElanna Torres played by Roxanne Dawson. Torres was a Maquis rebel who was half Klingon and half human. She was forever battling the two sides of herself.

Jeri Ryan came on mid show playing the famous Borg defectee Seven of Nine. Ryan continues to be among the most popular Trek personalities.

Enterprise had some notable female characters. Jolene Blalock served as TPol, the Vulcan science advisor who was onboard to guide the humans. While just an advisor, she was supposed to be the wise advisor. The humans on the crew often chafed under her direction, though. And the Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) often disregarded her advice.

Star Trek women faced the challenges of being women in the 20th century as well as in the 23rd century. That they did it with as much compassion and humanity as they did is a credit to both the actresses who played the role and the men who created them.

On Tuesday, November 14, Majel Barrett Roddenberry joins son Eugene Rod Roddenberry and writer/director Nicholas Meyer for a special 40th Anniversary Star Trek Celebration at the world famous Graumans Chinese Theatres Complex in Hollywood, California following a screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as part of the Story Makers Studio series at the Chinese. Tickets are available at the Chinese Theatres box office and online at http://www.stiylagency.com/startrek

Stacy Fox is a second generation Trekker. A student of womens history and Star Trek, she is especially excited about meeting Majel Barrett Roddenberry at the Story Makers Studio Star Trek 40th Anniversary Celebration on November 14 at Manns Gourmans Chinese Theater. 15 Daily Feminist Activities

Youre busy. Youre broke. How do you make positive social change without having to dole out big bucks and loads of energy? Here are 15 feminist activities you can incorporate into your daily life to solve that dilemma.

1. Leave copies of feminist publications everywhere. Leave behind old issues of Ms., Girlistic and local womens papers in ObGYN waiting rooms and dental offices. Forget articles in the copy machine at work. Latent feminists are everywhere you never know who might find your little treasures and feel a sense of anonymous camaraderie and support.

2. Use feminine pronouns as generic pronouns,

especially when talking about male-dominated professions or industries. Its surprising how noticeable it is when you use she or her as a generic. People hear it and take note.

3 & 4. Patronize women-owned businesses, especially when theyre local. Women own 48% of all businesses nation-wide, and that number is growing. Yet in the largest companies, women fill only 10% of the positions of power. So, support us where it counts - when were in a position to give ourselves equal pay. Avoid businesses that dont support women. Wal-Mart has a horrendous record of treating female employees badly. Carls Jr. has incredibly sexist and degrading commercials. Businesses that clearly dont have your interests at heart dont need your money.

5. Attend events like Take Back The Night, Vagina Monologue showings, womens sporting events, and womens music festivals. Events like these are empowering and exciting, and adding your body to the crowd not only helps boost feminist moral but also reenergizes your activist batteries.

6. Visit feminist websites and blogs. The more you visit feminist websites, the more hits they have under their belts. The more hits they have, the more advertisers are willing to pay to be placed on the site. The more advertisers are willing to pay, the more funds those websites have at their disposal to put to work towards feminist goals. Plus, you learn a thing or two while youre surfing.

7. Sign up for action alerts from websites like Feminist Majority Foundation, NOW, and Amnesty International. They email you alerts for new actions and in about 30 seconds you can send a letter to political leaders on pertinent issues.

8. Check out feminist books from local libraries. It doesnt matter if you dont have time to read them. Just checking them out shows an interest in the subject and the library will continue to shelve the books, and may grow their feminist resources if they see enough demand. Also, request books they dont carry. They might be able to stock them later on.

9 & 10. Buy gender-neutral toys and clothes for baby showers and birthdays. If you have to buy something, this is an easy way to slow the perpetuation of gender stereotypes, especially when it comes to educational toys.

Buy stamps. When you choose your stamps, choose the breast cancer stamps, the stop family violence stamps, or stamps that feature females. Not only do your dollars make a difference but when you send out your mail, those stamps pass through a lot of hands and are noticed by a surprisingly large number of people.

11. Pass along feminist books. Its tough to let go of a good book, but someone else may be aching to read it and not even know it yet. If you come across someone who can use your copy of Women Who Run With Wolves, dont be afraid to lend it, or even give it, to someone who will appreciate it and who can then spread along the good word as well.

12. Add information to forms. When filling out a form that asks M or F, add in other options such as Intersex, reminding people that sex is not black and white. If the form is asking about your sex, but it states gender, cross out M and F and put masculine, feminine, and androgynous to illustrate that gender is how we perform our sex and sexuality, and not sex itself. If it asks marital status, add in Domestic Partners. Even if you dont need the extra options, others do.

13. Write positive letters to the editor. Its surprising how fast you can whip out a 200 word letter to your local paper thanking them for featuring a female columnist or journalist, covering womens activities positively, or showing an advertisement that supports or empowers women. Editors listen, and this encourages them to continue or increase the positive things theyre doing.

14. Ask questions. Ask your employer, or a company with whom youre interviewing, their policy on prescription birth control, same-sex partner benefits, coverage of mammograms and annual wellness exams, and childcare support systems. Even if the issues dont directly affect you, your asking reminds others there is a concern about these things.

15. Say what you actually think. Yes, this is a tough one sometimes, but highly effective. Add to the conversation what you think, not what you feel others want to hear. It will increase the richness of the conversation, as well as impact other people because more than likely, someone else in the room will agree with you and feel empowered to speak their mind too. ∆

Asthma Diagnosis

The asthma diagnosis comes from a series of tests. In many cases, a doctor will be able to determine if a patient has asthma and diagnose them right on the spot. In these cases, the diagnosis will be determined by the patients pre history. The doctor will look at the patients history of illness as well as his family history to determine if the symptoms and signs there are likely to be that of asthma. In addition, most doctors will use a simple examination to confirm their diagnosis of the asthma condition.

When an adult is to be diagnosed with asthma, the doctor may take some measurements of his airways. In asthma, the airways will constrict tightly, not allowing enough air to pass through them. This is a test that offers diagnosis of the condition, but can not be done on children. The doctor will use what is called a peak flow meter to help test and then diagnosis the adult asthma patient. In addition to it using an inhaler to test the benefits it offers to the potential asthma patient. For children to be diagnosed with asthma, the doctor will look at his medical history. Then, to insure that the patient does have asthma, he or she will monitor the childs response to various inhalers using bronchodilator medications.

In many cases, a doctor will diagnosis asthma within a matter of minutes due simple to the conditions that the patient is facing. Those that are facing asthma symptoms will usually be able to be diagnosed based on the conditions in which they face asthma like reactions. Doctors often can diagnosis a patient within a matter of minutes just by knowing the various factors that cause the body to react. In these cases, the final test comes from testing medications on the potential asthma sufferer to see if they do in fact relieve the condition.

10 Signs of a Healthy Relationship

My parents had a very good relationship, I often hear my clients say.

What do you mean by good? I ask.

They didnt fight. They spent a lot of time with each other.

That may have been the definition of a good relationship years ago, but now most people want more. Following are ten signs of a healthy relationship.

KINDNESS

Is kindness more important to each of you than having your way, being in control, or being right? Do you each receive joy out of being kind to each other? Being kind rather than controlling with each other is essential for a healthy relationship.

SPONTANEOUS WARMTH AND AFFECTION

Do you and your partner well up with warmth and fullness of heart for each other and express it with affection? Are you each able to see the beautiful essence within each other, rather than just the faults? Are you able to get beyond the outer to the unique inner Self of each other? Do you enjoy sharing affection? Warmth and affection are vital for a healthy relationship.

LAUGHTER AND FUN

Can the two of you laugh and play together? Do you appreciate and enjoy each others sense of humor? In the midst of difficulties, can you help each other to lighten up with humor? Can you let down and be playful with each other, letting yourselves be like kids together? Laughter and fun play a huge role in a healthy relationship.

ENJOYING TIME TOGETHER AND TIME APART

Are you both each others favorite person to spend time with? Are you motivated to set aside time just to be together?

Do both of you have friends and interests that you enjoy doing? Are both of you fine when you are not together?

Some couples spend a lot of time together because they really enjoy it, while others spend a lot of time together out of fear of being alone. It is important for a healthy relationship for each person to have friends and interests, so that they are not dependent on each other. Dependency is not healthy in a relationship, particularly emotional dependency.

A METHOD FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION

All relationships have some conflict. It is not the conflict that is the issue, but how you deal with it. Do you have a method for resolving conflict, or do the issues just keep getting swept aside? If fighting is part of how you deal with conflict, do you fight fair, or are you hurtful when you fight?

LETTING GO OF ANGER

If one or both of you get angry, do you hang on to it, punishing your partner with it, or can you easily let it go? In healthy relationships, both partners are able to quickly move on, back into kindness and affection.

TRUST IN YOUR LOVE FOR EACH OTHER

Do you each trust that the love is solid, even in very difficult times between you? Do you each know that you can mess up, fail, disappoint the other, emotionally hurt the other and the love will still be there? Do you each know that the love is about who you are, not what you do? This level of trust is essential for a healthy relationship.

LISTENING, UNDERSTANDING, ACCEPTING AND LEARNING

Do you each feel heard, understood and accepted? Can you share your secrets with your partner without fearing being judged? Are you each more interested in learning about yourselves and each other than you are in controlling each other? Is listening to each other with an open heart and a desire to understand more important than judging each other or defending yourselves?

SEXUALITY

Is your sexual relationship warm and caring? Can you be sexually spontaneous? Can you talk with each other about what brings pleasure to each of you?

FREEDOM TO BE YOURSELF

Do you each feel free to be all that you are? Do you each feel supported in pursuing what brings you joy? Does your partner feel joy for your joy?

While some people may naturally be open, kind, affectionate, accepting, and emotionally responsible for themselves, most people need to heal the fears and false beliefs they learned in their families. Healthy relationships evolve as each person evolves in his or her ability to be loving to themselves and each other.
